The Speak Your Mind Annual Meeting is back

“SYM 2020 was like coming up for a breath of fresh air. Coming from a country where mental health is not really discussed openly and seeing a room full of people that are passionate about mental health was really amazing”

- Dr Naeem Dalal, Global Shaper and Speak Your Mind partner

Last year’s Global Annual Planning Meeting saw Speak Your Mind partners reunite in Kenya. After a busy year of global action, 80 campaigners from 20 countries came together for an inspiring 3 days of sharing, collaborating, and planning for the next 12 months.

This year, the campaign’s Global Annual Planning Meeting is set to look a little different. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2021 meeting will take place entirely virtually. Mental health campaigners from around the world will still be coming together, only this time they will be tuning in from their home countries for the online event next week.

With our mental health being challenged like never before, it is clear that strategic global action is needed now more than ever. The 2021 Annual Planning Meeting will be a great platform for this; giving campaigners the chance to identify priorities and opportunities for collaboration in the year ahead.

With an agenda that is packed with capacity building workshops, a virtual marketplace, and representatives from a number of global organisations, including UNICEF and Human Rights Watch, it is set to be an action packed few days. Here are a few things you can expect to see:

  • Looking Back: The Annual Meeting will give campaigners the opportunity to take stock and reflect on an extraordinary year, sharing their learnings from 2020 at both a national and global level.

  • Looking Ahead: Together the Speak Your Mind campaigners will share their country and partner plans for 2021, which is already set to be a busy one for global action.

  • Aligning: By aligning around a shared calendar for the year ahead, campaigners will identify and agree on a focus for collaborative joint activation.

  • Sharing: Together campaigners will share best practices around regional engagement, corporate engagement and building partnerships, allowing them to learn from one another.

  • Connecting: The Global Annual Planning Meeting is a unique opportunity for campaigners from around the world to connect with one another and come together as a truly global community.
